Largs & District Horticultural Society

Largs Horticultural Show 2022

Show Report

After a gap of two years caused by Covid-19, Largs & District Horticultural Society were delighted to welcome exhibitors and visitors to Largs Flower Show on Saturday 20th August 2022.

Despite a difficult growing season and some heavy rain and high winds on the days before the show the organisers were delighted to see the quality of exhibits.

A steady stream of visitors were treated to a colourful spectacle of flowers, pot plants and vegetables. The Floral Art exhibits reflected significant artistic talent and imagination. Also on display were mouth-watering examples of home-baking, including a special Decorated Cake class sponsored by West Coast Cakes and displays of Hobbies and Crafts. Budding talent was evident in the variety of exhibits in the Nursery/Early Years, Schools and Junior sections. The Society was particularly pleased to welcome a large number of first-time exhibitors and look forward to their participation next year.

Drawing special praise were the amazing displays of fruit and vegetables provided in the Allotment category, and a huge cabbage that was the star attraction of the show.

The main prize-winner was local gardener, Society Secretary Etta Strachan who won the Royal Bank of Scotland Quaich for most points in the show along with four other trophies. Long-Time exhibitor and Society stalwart Ian Halbert from Skelmorlie was awarded the prize for Best Exhibit in Show. His winning pair of celery drew admiring comments from judges and visitors alike and they took pride of place in the hall.

As the show closed the array of very generous Raffle prizes donated by local businesses and individuals were handed out to the lucky ticket holders.

Largs & District Horticultural Society would like to thank everyone who gave up their time on the day and throughout the year to make the Show such a success and to the local shops, businesses, organisations and individuals who made generous donations.
